Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is your design style?
A: Content is the most important part of a website.
The web design should provide an attractive and appropriate container
for the content, but not attempt to
hide the lack of content. I believe in simple design with easy, clear
navigation. I generally do not do buttons, rollovers, or Flash. I feel
that "bells
and whistles" distract from the communication objectives of the website
and also are not good for search engine optimization (SEO). Other elements
that are best avoided are scrolling marquees, frames, and splash pages.
Q: How much will a website cost?
A: Most sites would involve at least a couple days work
and cost at least $200. A basic one-page information site involving
minimal design work could
be less. The actual cost would depend on how much work would be involved
and an estimate would be based on the information you provide about
your requirements.
Q: What information is needed to determine
the cost of a website?
A: Before asking for a quote, take some time to think
about the kind of website you need and want. Start by thinking about
your goals and target audience. Look at other websites
and note
what
types of
designs and
features you like and dislike. Then answer the questions on the the website
planning sheet. This information is important not only for determining
the cost, but also for designing a web site that is appropriate for
your needs and audience.
Q: Do I need to meet with you?
A: No. I usually work via e-mail, postal mail, and/or
phone. My contact information is on the contacts page.
Q: How can I make a PDF file to download from
my website?
A: Pdf 995 is an easy to use
free program that allows you to create a PDF document simply by selecting
the "print" command. The PDF document can be viewed in Acrobat reader.
